Contributing
What happens when you send us a product, and what we claim over it.
What we ask for
Factual information printed on packaging: the barcode, the product name, the pack size, the ingredient declaration, the nutrition table. Occasionally a photograph of the packaging.
What we do with it
A submission never changes the catalogue directly. It goes into a review queue, an editor checks it, and only then does a product record get created or updated. That is what stops a scanning app becoming a way to vandalise allergen information.
What we claim
By sending product information you agree that FoodSignal may use it to build and improve its food database, including commercially. We are talking about the facts on a packet — an ingredient list is not a creative work and we make no claim over anything else you own. If you send a photograph you took, you are confirming it is yours to share.
What we record
The version of these terms in force when you submitted, so the position for any given contribution stays provable. The current version is 2026-09-12.
If you change your mind
Deleting your account detaches your contributions from you. Product facts already checked into the database stay, because they are facts about a food rather than information about you.
These terms should be reviewed by a qualified professional before FoodSignal accepts contributions at scale.
